Riet heeft altijd een belangrijke plaats gehad in onze bouwhistorie en wordt nog steeds veel toegepast op daken. Nadat de winterzon het gewas heeft gebleekt wordt het riet op de drijvende velden rondom Giethoorn elke winter nog gesneden, gebundeld en per bootje naar de wallenkant gebracht. Meters hoog ligt het in de boerenschuur totdat de rietdekkers het in de lente afnemen voor restauratiewerk. De crèmekleurige stengels steken hard af tegen het staalblauwe water, een oer-Hollands tafereel. Hoe fantastisch is het om dit gewas toe te passen in een interieur.
Reed has always been an important part of our architectural history and is still widely used on roofs. After the winter sun has bleached the crop on the floating beds around Giethoorn the reed is cut, bundled and taken by boat to the shore. It is stacked meters high in a barn until the thatchers use it for restoration starting in early spring. The cream-colored stems and soft plumes set against the steel blue colored water is a typical Dutch scene. It is inspiring to apply it in your interior.
