Fibre Walls Collection# forms part of our Living Textures research, where we explore new ways to reimagine walls by applying textile textures. The outcome of this research is a fully circular, sustainable wall and ceiling stucco material, that has high quality insulating and acoustic properties but also enhances the aesthetic value of the interior.
In collaboration with BuroBelen, we developed a circular, sustainable, and fully biodegradable stucco layer composed of textile fibres bound by a specially developed bio-binder. The textile fibres used in this project are sourced from textile residual streams. At our studio, we believe that all materials have inherent value—whether or not they fit traditional usage. When materials deviate from conventional applications, we see an opportunity, and it is often where one finds the beauty in materials. This mindset is central to the development of Fibre Walls, where we embrace and reimagine discarded materials as integral components in creating something new.
The material is designed to add warmth and softness to spaces, making them more comfortable and inviting. The range of colours, developed using natural pigments, enhances the material’s versatility for various building projects. The dual-tone finishes create dynamic visual effects that change throughout the day as natural light interacts with the colour and texture, reinforcing the idea of “living textures.”
Currently, Fibre Walls offers three main varieties: Wool Stucco, Cotton Stucco, and Cotton Spray. Each variety has unique characteristics and appearances, providing a range of options to suit different aesthetic preferences and functional needs. The Wool Stucco has already been successfully applied in notable projects, including a bespoke wall installation for the Willibrordus Church in Haringhuizen and as part of the ReThink project with Kvadrat, where we used the largest waste stream from their textile production.
The Cotton Stucco and Cotton Spray products have been developed in a wide range of colours, with some options showcasing a beautiful marbled effect, referred to as the Swirl Collection. This collection was inspired by traditional stucco art techniques and showcases the depth and potential of this new material.
